With the signing of 15 cross-Strait agreements on a wide range of issues, the most important of which was the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) inked on June 29, 2010, economic and trade relations between Taiwan and mainland China have improved significantly over the past two years. Moreover, the recent massive cut in Taiwan’s business and inheritance tax rates has attracted much attention from the international business community, with many enterprises recognizing that now is the opportune time to invest in Taiwan.
President Ma Ying-jeou has stressed that ECFA holds far-reaching implications for Taiwan’s future -- not only accelerating Taiwan’s economic integration with the rest of Asia, but making the island a more valuable asset in the eyes of the Asia-Pacific region and the world, and transforming Taiwan into a gateway to the mainland China market for foreign enterprises. Mr. Liang will discuss how the foreign and Taiwan business communities can engage in strategic partnerships to explore the numerous potential business opportunities created in the post-ECFA era.
