The signing of the ECFA in mid-2010 opened up a brand new chapter of closer economic relationships between Taiwan and China. Previously, Taiwan extensive business contacts and accumulated economic successes in China had largely gone unnoticed by the multinationals. Now, with full Three-Links, the loosening of cross-Strait investment restrictions, an already vibrant capital market for Taiwan IPO and TDR, and the recent slashing of corporate income tax and inheritance tax, Taiwan is again becoming a center of attention in the world of investment. In the post-ECFA era, the "Taiwan-advantages" make Taiwan a very attractive gateway for foreign multinational companies to penetrate China as the World’s Market. It is time now for many foreign multinationals to rethink their China strategy and reconsider tapping on to the “Taiwan advantages.” A number of Japanese and European companies have made their moves in this direction. U.S. companies, many of which have been active in Taiwan for decades, should not lag far behind.
AmCham is honored to invite Dr. Jack J.T. Huang, Partner-in-Charge of the Taipei Office of the global law firm of Jones Day, to share his insights on why ECFA makes Taiwan a new and attractive gateway to China for foreign multinational companies.
About the Speaker
Mr. Jack Huang is Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day, Taipei Office. He has practiced law in Hong Kong, New York, and Taipei. He is a member of the Taipei Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Jack also serves as the vice chairman of Taiwan Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Council and is a visiting associate professor at Soochow University School of Law.
Jack’s practice encompasses a broad range of international investments, mergers and acquisitions, securities, financing, joint ventures, technology licensing, technology enterprise representations, venture capital formation and investments, construction, infrastructure projects, and other corporate transactions primarily in the United States and Asia. He is one of the first international corporate lawyers that pioneered in representing multinational clients in China investment matters in the late 1970s. Jack has substantial experience in investment structuring matters concerning international high net worth families and closely held companies.
Jack has been recognized by “Chambers Global” as one of the “World’s Leading Lawyers” for many years and by “Asia Legal Business (ALB)” as among Asia's Top 25 M&A Lawyers in 2009.
To cancel without penalty, written cancellation must be received by AmCham 24 hours before the event, or else full price of the event will be charged.
