The economy of Taiwan rebounds rapidly after the financial crisis. Most have viewed Taiwan as an innovation-driven economy; Taiwan remains relatively competitive in the world. Taiwan ranked No.8 in the IMD’s “World Competitiveness Scoreboard,” which jumped from No.23 in 2009.
With the dividend yields and the improving market governance, Taiwan’s stock market, like many other emerging markets, is attractive and the trading value and shareholding by foreign investors have steadily increased. After direct flights and the recent signing on ECFA with China, Taiwan also offers a positive story to investors at home and abroad.
However, investors remain interested in the fundamental health of the economy and the efficiency of market infrastructure. Would Taiwan capital market emerge as a unique player, with IT integration, design innovation and human capital, combined with the positive outlook of its moderation on cross-straits? Would TAISDAQ become a reality, given its prowess among the Chinese speaking population and the IT advantages?
AmCham Taipei’s Capital Market is especially honored to invite the expert in the field, Chairman Schive of TWSE, to share his views and thoughts.
