Introduction on LED General Lighting and its Future Trend
With the advance of technology and the growing importance of cost reduction, LED lighting has attracted more and more attention during the past two years. Currently, backlighting and general lighting are the most two important applications for LED technology. Compared to backlighting, general lighting is facing more challenges when competing with traditional lighting in terms of price, efficacy and color performance. In order to overcome such barriers, many efforts have been made to develop more advanced technology. Despite these problems, industry trends show that LED general lighting will eventually have great potential in the lighting market. Many companies have already got involved in this business at this point.
In this talk, the speaker will introduce the application market, the status and future trends for general lighting as well as Taiwan's position in this industry.
About the Speaker
Dr. YJ Lai is the Project Manager of Solid-state Lighting Business Unit, Delta Electronics, Inc. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from National Central University, majoring in Crystal Growth. After graduation, he gained further expertise in Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) and Asia Pacific Microsystems, Inc. (APM). Then, he joined Qualcomm and worked with the development of MEMS display technology. After joining Delta, he first served as engineering leader of its Concentrator Photovoltaics (CPV) project. Currently, he is working on its LED general lighting project.
